The place is under new ownership, and I have mixed feelings about it. I really wanted to love it. My experience is with the teeny classes . Sometimes they have a lot of kids in the class (at least the classes my child attended), and it may become difficult to actually get any "real" dancing done due to the teachers having to tend to tot's that are crying, not paying attention, or doing their own thing. It may be beneficial to have a teacher and an assistant in order to be more productive and actually have the children dancing. Another idea may be to have different levels that consists of newer children or the fresh 2/3 yrs olds that maybe have never been exposed to dance in with the "seasoned" ones that have been attending for a couple years as that accounts for yet another distraction. Now, it is understandable that they are young and their attention span is short but if additional effort is put in to try and keep them on track with minimal distractions it may help with keeping their attention for the time of the class. The class start times really don't mean anything, especially when they are back to back. The 1 hr class is not really 1 hr as you are usually waiting anywhere from 5 to 15 min. for the class to start. Then they have a break to change their shoes which may take anywhere from 5 min. or so if you are lucky. So why exactly pay for an hour class, when it really is only about 45 min.? They want to have rules that they expect for the students to follow, yet they are not abiding by them themselves.
Instructors. The young ladies who instruct were nice, I think they are older students from the studio. There was an instructor that was too lax and did not seem to be able to redirect the children. It was brought to the attention of the studio, and they did change the instructor, which was good. Later on in the year one of the instructors was leaving but ended up staying. During this time the children were taught a routine and upon her return the routine was again changed causing a bit of confusion with the little ones.
Costumes. the price of the costumes for the quality received is definitely not equivalent. I understand, a profit needs to be made but when the quality is lacking and you know that the cost of the item is nowhere near what you are paying that is a major disappointment. Yes, they may just use them once but that is not justification for the lack of quality. Don't have me pay $40 for a garment that only cost you $10 to $15 max. The costumes literally seem like something that was ordered online from Amazon or Ebay that cost but a few dollars if bought in bulk. The costumes were coming apart even with just trying them on, that is definitely NOT ok.
Recital. Practice was a headache & I was extremely disappointed in the recital, particularly due to having to pay for 2 shows that were the EXACT same thing other then the 3 (i believe) teeny dances. I did not appreciate having to pay for both shows just to watch my child dance the routines that were like a minute long or so. So you literally had to sit through the exact same dances (which I think was the routines they do for competition). Don't get me wrong they were nice to watch but not twice. The price of the show was a little high for my liking and I did not feel that I could justify my family coming to pay $30 (cost of watching both shows per person) to watch 2 minutes of total show time. I had to leave the siblings, aunties and uncles at home b/c I could not budget paying for more then mommy and daddy to attend.
I feel that if you are trying to maintain families in the studio long term, there should be open communication and actually include the parents from time to time. If mistakes were brought to the attention of the studio, it did not seem as if they wanted to take responsibility for them be it forgetting to provide information out to the parents, status updates, etc. However, the studio is always sure to ensuring that they get the money from you with reminders.
